The robotaxi service, offered by Tesla, was launched just a few weeks ago. Surprisingly (or not), one of them has already been involved in an accident.
The incident, which happened in Austin, Texas (USA), showed how a Tesla Model Y, one of the company’s autonomous cars operating as a “robotaxi,” lightly bumped into a parked Toyota.
A video shared on YouTube showed footage of the accident, revealing that the Tesla robotaxi had just dropped off a passenger but struggled to maneuver in a dark alley.
The footage also shows that when trying to leave, the autonomous vehicle turned and accelerated toward the parked Toyota, slightly touching its front tire. No one was injured, and there was no significant damage to either vehicle.

It’s worth noting that the company’s autonomous mobility service was launched just two weeks ago in the city, highlighting the challenges the technology still faces.
On June 22, Elon Musk appeared on his X (formerly Twitter) profile to celebrate the “successful” launch of the service. “The culmination of a decade of hard work,” he wrote at the time.
